  4.  *** Rules For the Native-American/Canadian Genealogy Conference (Echo) ***

  6.  1.  This conference is available to any IGA_Net(tm) SYSOP or Private
  7.      member who has a personal interest in, or whose operation has callers
  8.      having an interest in, Native American/Canadian Genealogical research.
  9.  
  10.  2.  Personal attacks (FLAMES), offensive language or racial slurs are
  11.      prohibited in this conference.  When someone enters a message with
  12.      such content, their feed will be immediately severed--without any 
  13.      notification.  In case a message appears which is questionable as to
  14.      possibly containing contents prohibited above, the originator will be
  15.      required to respond by direct netmail to the moderator with answers 
  16.      to questions presented by the moderator.  In the absence of a speedy
  17.      communication, the message originator's feed will be severed.
  18.  
  19.  3.  Messages from this conference may not be gated to any other
  20.      network without the express consent of the North American 
  21.      Coordinator, IGA-NA (440:1/1).

  23.  4.  Off-topic messages are prohibited in this conference.

  25.  5.  The use of taglines is strongly dissuaded. In the event the originator
  26.      of a message finds he/she has an urgent need to utilize a tagline, the
  27.      tagline will only be a short line detailing research surnames:

  29.                  Researching: JONES, GREEN, and CALLAWAY
  30.  
  31.      Cutesy taglines add nothing to the value of genealogical research
  32.      being conducted by the message originator.... in fact, they detract
  33.      greatly from the serious purpose of the message content.
  34.  
  35.      Also, taglines add to the length of messages and therefore add to the 
  36.      cost of transferring traffic via continental and intercontinental 
  37.      telephone. Again, you are requested to empathize with those who are 
  38.      paying the long-distance charges and leave taglines off your messages.
  39.  
  40.  6.  The use of excessive "quoting" is strictly discouraged.  Only
  41.      quote that portion of a message which is necessary to continue the
  42.      "thought" without going overboard.  Quoting an entire message is
  43.      hardly ever necessary.
  44.  
  45.  7.  Do *NOT* enter a message in *ALL* capital letters!  Capital 
  46.      letters are used to EMPHASIZE a point or to make SURNAMES
  47.      stand out inside the body of the text.
  48.  
  49.  8.  *DO* enter *ALL* SURNAMES in *ALL* capital letters in the
  50.       subject of your message and in the body of your messages:

  52.                        John JONES, Betty SMITH
  53.  
  54.  9.  You should not capitalize your surname as the originator of
  55.      the message or the surname of the recipient of your message.
  56.  
  57. 10.  Although "thank-you" notes are a form of good manners, they
  58.      are more appropriately sent via NetMail or Snailmail.

  61. Considering that characters with the high-ASCII bit set
  62. (above 7A hexadecimal (127 decimal)) and characters of value
  63. less than 20 hexadecimal (32 decimal) cause numerous problems
  64. with software now in use, such characters are not allowed
  65. in messages in this echo.
